Well we still find ourselves in lockdown once more. Not going out has meant that some of those jobs we have been putting off are getting done. We have put in a new stock fence between ourselves and the pub, done battle with brambles 8 ft tall but mainly got very wet. We are on the home straight and we are starting to gain a bit more land for hay.
The rain is still falling and the puddles have turned into small ponds! This has required some quick work with fork and spare to dig some temporary drainage to rid the land of some of the water. With a bit of luck we have managed to drain the hay field of enough water so that the new grass seed starts to grow when the weather warms up.
Apple juice sales have far exceeded our wildest dreams. We bottled 180+ bottles and have sold out in a little over 3mths. Mainly to people from the village and surrounding area, we have managed to get a few into local shops but most has been direct sales which is a good way to engage with our neighbours hopefully they will be able to see, and apricate, what we are trying to achieve. Here’s to next year and hopefully more sales.
Over the last few weeks we have planted 26 new fruit trees. Mainly Apples but also Cherry, Plum and Pear. Hopefully helping to increase our crop in the years to come (if we can stop the sheep from eating them!) We also hope to plant new trees along the boundary with the pub and along the footpath creating more habitat for local wildlife.
Hers hoping for better weather over the next few weeks so we can get on with more of our jobs.
Stay safe
